Punggol Nostalgia

Day 5       24 Dec 2001 Mon (Day 6)       Day 7

Met the jap couple at breakfast. Said they were leaving today at 3pm, heading for Singapore and stayng there for 2 days. We recommended them Sentosa, Night Safari and Orchard Rd. Too bad we won't be back. Else we can show them around. Didn't even catch their names. Well guess that's the way it is in Maldives. People just tend to be more private and less partyish.

Snorkelled in the house reef again. This time we saw 4 black tips together circling us. Awesome. One was quite huge. More that 1 m I reckon. When one swam towards M, she got a bit panicky. Heh heh. Silly girl. Saw a blue fin travalli that was ard 1 m. Huge. The snappers were pretty huge too. Saw a blue spotted cod/garoupa thingy. They seem to like hiding in holes very much. M got a bit sea-sick and we stopped. As we walked on the beach, heading for our villa, we saw 2 blue finned travalli feeding. They attacked some smaller fish all the way up to the edge of the beach. The water even splashed on my face.

Really regret not buying the underwater housing for my Ixus even though it is expensive. I could have captured the mantas, sharks, octopus etc. Going for the sunset cruise at 5 today. Xmas eve dinner after that. Hope we won't be under-dressed.

Saw the jap couple again just went we were going for the sunset cruise at 4:50 pm. Exchanged contact details and took photos on both cameras. His name is Saito and hers is something like Terie (Teh-ree-eh). Some last min well-wishes before we departed for Goma, our yacht.

The only other persons on board were a couple from hk. They didn't seem too sociable so we pretty much left them alone. Like I said, people tend to be more private in Maldives, since it is a honeymoon place. We had our fruit cocktails, some salmon-caviar finger food, and champagne. M doesn't like champagne so she left hers almost untouched. Neither did I so I didn't finish hers either. Sunset was gorgeous in the open sea. The blue sky turned red as the sun set behind the horizon. Then came the highlight of the day. The deck hands caught sight of schools of dolphins, and the captain gave chase. We saw many spin out of the water. 2 even ventured near the Goma. Too bad I didn't have a video cam. All I could manage was 1 photo since the timing was always off and I only captured many pictures after the dolphins have jumped and submerged. We saw a lot of flying fish too. Couldn't believe that I used up all but 20 pics of the 86 I had with my flash card.

Got back at 8pm and after backing up the pics, went for our Xmas Eve dinner. Luckily many were dressed shabbily as well. Blueberry pancake with choc sauce was yummy. Think I had at least 11 large prawns. Brought what was left of our Riesling to the bar to watch the magic show at 10 pm. Felix and his assistant. Quite funny but pretty standard acts. Found out that Amidala is spanish after her mum participated on stage. After the show, we went to the jetty to see if there were mantas. No luck again. Showered and finished Dude , Where's My Car before sleeping. Found the Continuum Transfunctioner, and Zoltan quite funny.
